Many people are quite fine with getting on the treadmill for a whole hour, but for others, this might seem like the sentence to boredom. People who seek a more fascinating and interesting workout may see elliptical machines and treadmills and compare them to hamster wheels, and might be very discouraged about the thought of using them for a workout. Many gyms have added television sets to these machines to make them more appealing to those who are bored.

Fortunately, there are many activities that can be great alternatives to those mentioned above. Weight loss can be made fun when it comes to cardiovascular activities. If the weather is good, one can go hiking or jump on a large outdoor trampoline. Outdoor games like football, basketball, and capture the flag can be a lot of fun for families. Some indoor cardio activities include dancing, jump roping, hula hooping, and swimming. Dancing is a very popular form of indoor exercise which varies from dance classes such as ballet and tap, to some of the programs such as Zumba which are designed specifically for cardiovascular training. Some of these activities can be indoor or outdoor, depending on the weather and climate.

In addition to cardiovascular training, an important part of weight loss is strength training. Your options are a little more limited when it comes to strength training and fun, however. So if you need to, use the cardiovascular fun activities as a momentum driver to keep you going from one strength training segment to the next. Three really fun strength training exercises which primarily will build arm muscles are tree climbing, rock climbing, and arm wrestling. Of course the tree climbing and rock climbing will depend on your geographic availability and weather again, but these are options for good weather.

At the end of the day, if you can get to it, and you look forward to it, you are doing well. Even something like yard work can be very good for your health. Just be sure that you are working within your own limits, and that you can laugh. Laughter is a really great benefit to your health. Weight loss can be yours through healthy eating and enjoyable exercise. Find something you love to do, and do lots of it! There are many ways to enjoy your workouts, so keep looking and trying new things if you haven't found it yet!
