Is Fast Weight Loss a Good Idea?

There are 1001 reasons for people to lose weight quickly: a wedding, a holiday, a birthday party, a show or presentation and the like. There are plenty of diet plans that promise quick results but may be detrimental to your health, even if you should succeed.

Effects of crash diets
Moreover, your skin tends to shrink slower than your body, which brings on the wrinkles and haggardness. Stopping the diet will regain the weight loss, so it might seem a futile attempt. When you go on a crash diet, as you want to lose some weight fast, you are subjecting your body to a lack of glycogen and water which results in fast weight loss. But you are also subjected to dehydration, which can result in gallstone problems possibly later in your life.

When your body is put into starvation mode, you will lose muscle as well as fat. More muscles translate to higher metabolism; less muscle, lower metabolism which results in a slowed down weight loss trajectory. This in turn results in the onset of headaches, insomnia, irritability, diarrhea and fatigue.

This discourages you on your weight loss plan and you regain the weight you lost.

Realistic goals
You may want to consider a reasonable goal that is achievable, such as that of a short-term goal where a few pounds could be lost easily on a weekly basis before embarking on a long-term goal.

For a weekly one-pound loss, one must forgo 500 calories every day to maintain the weight, which is the same as foregoing 2 chocolate bars or one almond croissant. Foregoing junk food, such as that full of sugar, crisps, animal fats and fizzy fluids, is essential to create the lifestyle change.

Switch to lots of fruit, grains, vegetables, fish and lean meat that can be served through tantalizing recipes. That should be good motivation to consume more of the healthy stuff. Lots of water and smaller meals are helpful to keep your body in good condition while you are watching your weight. An occasional indulgence is alright, even a glass of wine.

Exercising
As you eat, you will also need to release the fats some other way; the best way is to burn the calories through exercising, which can be simple workouts like walking, cycling or swimming if you are not a gym fan.

These are the simple but most effective ways to lose weight without harming your body and your health. A slow and steady pace will help you reach your goal just as the tortoise won the race.
